(Page 1) Holliday, Mo., Dec. 20, 1919 Dear Mr. Violette: I have been trying to get up to your town this fall but have not been able to get that far from home. I was, as you know, in the Marine Corps & was with the 4th Brigade of the 2nd Div. We were discharged on August 13 of this year. I saw a lot of interesting things while I was gone & after thought of you in connection with them. Especially those old churches & cathedrals of France & (Page 2) [no text] (Page 3) Germany. I was on the River PAtrol & lived on the Rine from the 20th of Dec. 1918 (a year ago today) to the 7th of July 1919. We traveled from Mainz to Cologne with headquarters of course at Coblenz. Mr. Violette, I am going to school after Christmas. I am going to the University & as they require a signed record of my work in school I wish you would ask Dean Ziegel to send a transcript of my Grades signed by himself to the Registrar of the University & if possible (Page 4) [no text] (Page 5) would like for them to be there by the first of the year. Of course it would be more business-like to write to Mr. Ziegel but I would rather write to you as you were always the one that I called on when I needed help. Thanking you in advance & wishing you a happy Christmas & prosperous New York, I am Your Friend Hugh J. Gwyn (Page 6) [no text]
