Olive Thomas, Movie Star, Finds Out About U. S. Marines.

LOS ANGELES, CALIF.—“It’s the globe, anchor and eagle, on hat or helmet, that distinguishes the U. S. Marine from other soldiers,” the sergeant tells her as he points to the device on his own cap. Olive is interested of course. Somehow she had always associated U. S. Marines with seamen of the naval service, and she’s a bit surprised when he tells her Marines are Soldiers of the Navy. Honest now! Did you know a U. S. Marine was a soldier and not a sailor? Miss Thomas didn’t know until her own brother joined the Marine Corps.
