(Page 1) France, Sept. 13, 1918 Dear Folks I am sitting out in the woods writing we have been moving to a new front & are still on our way we are just a few kils from [illegible text] now I have seen I guess the largest city in France except Paris. is a beautiful place one sees the swell dressed people. I got 2 letters from Ruf last week he has been promoted he gets more pay I guess I am a long ways from him now. I saw Carl & all the KV Boys Monday & saw Lt. Hinly & talked to him said he seen the Boys back to the States. I get my papers they came ok now we can get plenty tobacco we can get fruit to eat we have plenty to eat plenty clothes good place to sleep we don't want for anything the papers are right what they say about the war. you get all the St. Gen's paper you will see me in one my name & organization. 13 of us posed for the movies on the other front they took pictures while in action under shell fire & in gas masks they took 3 in Fr if you watch the picture you may see me at show some time I have been clear across France this is a beautiful (Page 2) place fine roads & level. The best thing is to watch an air plane battle when 2 or 3 machines get after the German planes & see them shoot in the air have seen at least 1000 shells burst in the air.
