And hope this will find you the Same Well mother I think I will be sailing for the U.S.A. soon. which we are hopeing [sic] so. Mother what is papa doing these days. I guess still in the mines, tell pappa [sic] this war doings has made a man out of me for this shore [sic] was some war. Mother I have still got your ring you gave me before I left I have it around my neck. Mother we are haveing[sic] a little rain here today but we have been haveing [sic] fine weather at that. Well mother I guess you have heard about the big drive the 35 D.W. pull off at the 25 of Sept it was on the Verdun Front the boys shore [sic] did do some hard fighting, I shore [sic] seen some dead Dutchman [sic] they was pulled up like. lots. I was lucky for getting out they shot one of my horses that was on the wheel. I was on the seat.
