To Teachers: 

Emphasize the splendid lesson contained in the lines:
"Fights our Army for me and you"; bring home to each
child the thought that he is personally protected; awaken
his desire to do his part. 

Use the flag story for reading in the lower grades,
for grammar and dictation in the upper grades. Let school
learn the salute and quotations.

Insert the name of your community in the pledge. If
they form a Civic Guard, let it be part of the ceremony of
each meeting. Ask them to tell what they are doing to
live up to the pledge. 

Emphasize Lee's message, comparing his orders with the
treatment accorded to the orchards in France by the enemy. 

Use "This country of ours" and "We need an army to
protect us" for declamation.

Correlate all with penmanship, spelling, English, history,
and geography.
