(Page 1) Write to me very, very soon and often The following are extracts from a letter received by Miss Vinnie Durk Montgomery from 357374(637) L/Sgt J.R Thornton Ansley R.A.M.C.J. 2nd WGH Leaf Sq Military Hospital -> Pendleton Manchester Eng The letter was written on Nov 11 at _ o'clock and is [illegible text] to be the latest word received from our time. Well the reason, I have found myself with a little time today is, that having, at about 9:30 AM today, learn'd that the Armistice was signed this morning. I have struck work, and have done very little. We have been too overjoyed to do anything - [illegible text] you see. I think I will now be able to write a little more frequently. I have had a terrible time since I was on leave - work, work (Page 2) W.W.I.44.47 and work, has been the order of the day. Have had a record number of admissions in October. It was the heaviest month since the war started. However after a few more months it will be over. I am I am glad that America has not had to suffer the losses of menfolk we have had. America's entry into the war decided the seale [sic] and brought about the end. You should be proud to be an American yes it is something to be proud about. The cause of "Right" has at last triumphed over "might" You will observe I have had another lift up the ladder of promotion and that I am now "Lance-Sergeant" - some Sergeant I can almost hear you exclaim.
