(Page 1) NATIONAL WAR WORK COUNCIL ARMY AND NAVY YOUNG MEN'S CHRISTIAN ASSOCIATIONS "WITH THE COLORS" Camp Funston Ka. 4/15 1918 Mr. W.J. Bray. Kirksville MO. Dear Mr. Bray, I fear I have been a little slow about answering but at best a soldiers [sic] time is limited and after home folks, and of course the best girl in the world, friends sometimes are neglected. I hope you will pardon me tho [sic]. Yesterday I saw our old second base player. He had on the K.S.N.S. baseball suit. Of course it was "Paley" [Illegible text].It remind me of old K.S.N.S. and I wonder how things are going? How the Bulldogs are coursing on the diamond and on the track. I hope the students can yell "Eat 'em Bulldogs" and see their (Page 2) (Page 3) NATIONAL WAR WORK COUNCIL ARMY AND NAVY YOUNG MEN'S CHRISTIAN ASSOCIATIONS "WITH THE COLORS" 1917 wish fulfilled. The 356th band is going to take a trip then Northern MO. week after next. We hope to visit Kirksville. We are doing it for the benifit [sic] of the Red Cross. We have written to the Red Cross there but have as yet received no answer. I hope that they want us as that will mean a visit to old K.S.N.S. All we are getting out of it is the trip and our experience. The trip is worth something to us. Training is being pushed as rapidly as possible here. Maj. Leu. Wood returned to Camp Funston Friday. The entire division was out to welcome him. (Page 4) (Page 5) NATIONAL WAR WORK COUNCIL ARMY AND NAVY YOUNG MEN'S CHRISTIAN ASSOCIATIONS "WITH THE COLORS" 1917 We are all glad to see him back for we think he will soon take us across. We are not especially eager to go but we want to get at the Hun giving him what is coming to him and get back. There are a great many rumors that we will leave during the next two months but I do not [sic] how much foundation there is to them. Everything is being equaled up tho [sic] since the latest drive of the Germans. Surely the man supply of Germany will some time be exhausted. I do not think the food problem is as serious as the supply of men. Where do they all come from. I suppose that the liberty loan drive is on in full (Page 6) (Page 7) NATIONAL WAR WORK COUNCIL ARMY AND NAVY YOUNG MEN'S CHRISTIAN ASSOCIATIONS "WITH THE COLORS" 1917 force now is it not. It looks as if it will be over[illgeible text] I hope so. It will be that much against the Germans. We will soon have a bunch of new men here. Well we need several to fill up the regiment. When they are filled up to the war strength off we go. Well I will close. I hope to see you soon if we get our trip Sincerely John A. Childers Hdq. Co. 356 Camp Funston Kansas. P.S. I am getting the Index regularly. It is sure full of news pep and school spirit. John (Page 8)
