(Page 1) Oct 27, 1918 Mrs. H.K. Davis Somewhere in France My dear Mother I have just lately Recd [sic] three or four letters from you and the one last was the one with grandma gills letter in it and the one from Helen I have not got time to ans [sic] them all. Right now things are real worse around here at prsent So you know I havent [sic] much time or I would write more I am in the front again and havent got no papers or envelopes with me but I think if I have good luck I will be back where I can write some in a few days Then I will catch up with my writing again I have been up here in the (Page 2) [no text] (Page 3) frunt [sic] this makes eight days and nights and I have got about ten or twelve more to stay and then we go back for a rest for a few days we are pushing the dutch at a great speed at present I dont have eny [sic] ideia [sic] how long it is going to last but we are in eleven or twelve miles of belgeim [sic] as near as I can tell I am well and feeling fine hope these first lines find you all the same oh yes mamma I must tell you I think I have gotten all your letters I could tell by the dates I got them all at one time got eight at one time I have 8 use [illegible text] got lots of letters from you I got the one you sent from East and (Page 4) [no text] (Page 5) the cards you sent I sopose [sic] he is on his way over here by now as He talked like he thought he would start right away well you would laugh if you could see me right now I am sitting in a little hole in the ground keepeing [sic] out of sight see too [sic] of us both wrighting [sic] home he said when we get back to the old U.S He will visit me mama dont send me enything [sic] to wear for xmas present for we have more clothes than we can carry now send cigaretts [sic] and candy for we can use them much Better but you will see what you can send and how about the same time you get this letter I will ans [sic] Helens & grandmas letters in a few (Page 6) [no text] (Page 7) says I have wrote to East but if He is gone it will fall on him tell Him to write to me just as soon as He gets here and if he is not to[sic] far away I will go and see him I Have writen [sic] all for this time and soon love and kisses to you & all at home ByBy [sic] PNJ Purdy Davis 354 Inf.
